"Cesarini Custom Shop is the guitars boutique where anyone can find his pickup! We offer different solutions to help you finding your "voice".
The Atelier creates sets of pickups, piezo systems and sells preamp systems (onboard, pedal) for acoustic and electric instruments. Every creation is made according to the timbric suggestions of the maker Federico Cesarini.
There are two main ways to create sound, magnetic and piezoelectric. The latter way work with all types of strings (steel, nylon or gut), or by any means emitting vibration.
The piezo elements, having a not very high output level and a not complete timbre, are usually used together with pre-amplification systems, which lower the input level, subsequently emphasizing certain frequencies through a multi-band equalizer.
The preamplifier always requires DC power or phantom 18v, while the piezo alone is to be considered "passive" (ie without battery).
Magnetic guitars pickup only work with steel strings through electromagnetic induction process. Singlecoil pickups are sensitive to magnetic fields generated by transformers, fluorescent lamps and other sources of interference and are prone to detect hum and noise from these sources.
Double-coil or "humbucker" pickups use two specially configured coils to minimize this interference. The sound of a guitar or an electric bass depends a lot on this element, number of coils is the most important characteristic.
From taking a look to the online music market, it seems that we could understand the perfect pickup for a selected musical genre or style. But fortunately it's not so simple, everyone needs to find "the" sound. The best way is not follow too much the music market rules.
There are long discussions between musicians about the advantages and disadvantages of different models, and for someone who has no knowledge of electronics, the subject may seem very complicated.
Electrically the pickups are actually quite easy to understand, but the subjectivity in the search for sound has no limit, as many constructive variables are.
Our Custom Shop offers its own handmade pickups, products rich in personality and highly finished in aesthetic and constructive details.
Different types of pickups are proposed in sets, each one has its own peculiarities. It is not advisable to buy single pickups of different nature,
expecially in the case of double or triple pickup instruments. A set is calibrated to play well, in terms of timbre homogeneity, polarity and hum cancellation.
Cesarini Artisan pickups sets can't be edited. Another way is the creation of a Custom Artisan pickup, customized in every aspect: covers, engravings, wire, magnet, connections, etc ...
Before taking an order, please read our detailed descriptions, to understand which kind of pickups you are taking.
A good set of pickups at a lower price. They are always on our own design, dedicated to every genres. Only the coil is semi-finished, we add magnet, cables, covers, plate, screws.
Our Artisan series have the relative Selected, slightly less expensive and a bit more approximate.
Passive electrification (ie without onboard preamp) through piezo is the least invasive and natural way to amplify a classical / folk / semi-acoustic / electric guitar or other similar musical instruments (mandolins, ukluleles, lutes, etc ... ).The piezo can be mounted in different ways: under soundboard (figure 1), under the bridge (figure 2), incorporated in the bridge (figure 3).
For soundboard application we sell ready and wired piezo (single version version PC-CC1 or parallel version PC-CC2 ). The sound is natural and complete, but not manageable without a certain type of pre-amplification, due to high resonance. They are suitable for all kind of instruments and expecially classical guitars.
For a sharper sound with more attack, which will not give any resonance problems, the "piezo saddle" (Fishman version PC-CC3 ) is more suitable
The third case is an embedded piezo + bridge, like a Tune or Matic Ghost piezo system or similar, to be mounted on an solid body guitar. Usually those kind of piezo circuits are "mixed" with the electronics of magnetic pickups
or stand-alone using an active preamp inside the cavities. We have availability of different bridge + piezo solution (hardtail) and active circuite.
In valuable instruments, where you still want to make controlled electrification by potentiometers, it is advisable to use piezo on soundboard and add passive wheel pots for tone and volume, on the edge of the rosette,
and then process the sound outside through preamplifiers that can also act as D.I. . This type of changes do not compromise the originality nor the quality of the musical instrument.
In addition, external preamps are often of higher quality than onboard. Liuteria Cesarini is an authorized center for LR Baggs systems and Audere onboard preamp, for which it can offer good prices compared to the market. We recommend the purchase of their pre amplifiers or piezo systems, applicable to almost all instruments: stringed instruments - ancient instruments - folk and classical guitars - piezoelectric instruments in general. A very versatile product, and contained in the cost, is definitely the Para Acoustic DI LR baggs. This is phantom-powered or 9 volt, has a full parametric 5 eq (and variable), a Notch control that is very useful and effective to remove the stage or instrument resonances, phase inversion, volume and gain control, send / return for connect external effects, DI xlr output for balanced silent output to mixer and finally output in more ¼ jacks to connect a possible amplifier.
Audere preamp are the best you can find for onboard preamp solution, we can also sell custom active / passive circuites for your request.
A pickup for an acoustic violin, very practical and with clear sound without resonance, is the LR Baggs, of which we offer the full version piezo + output jack ¼ ( PC-VLR PLUS ). The output impedance of this piezo is perfectly calibrated in the LR Baggs systems, like the Para Acoustic DI (article PC-LRP1 ). The jack has a very comfortable accommodation, to be placed near the chinrest. We recommend carrying out assembly and adjustment of the jumper at authorized luthiers, due to the high fragility of the piezo element and the cable.
We build two types of piezoelectrics for double bass ( PC-DB ) and cellos ( PC-CE ). The kits for sale are composed of piezo, to be placed under the foot of the bridge, connection cable and output jack (included is the locking system on the tail). Recall that the passive piezo system prefers to have an active preamp in the sound chain. We recommend a professional assembly of the product, the system may not work 100% due to numerous variables after the mounting process, as well as the setup of the instrument, the used preamp and the amplification (speaker, cables, etc...).
We bring audio examples of the electric piezo for cello, which were recorded in three ways: Piezo PC-CE , in chain LR Baggs paracoustic , preamp. OF.
Three types of recording, using microphones or piezo:
Applied to the audio are equalization and light plate reverb.
We mount different onboard systems, the market offers compact products that are mounted on the left shoulder rib of the guitar (the most common). Other systems have fewer controls (with tuner), but they can be placed below the hole of the instrument, so as to be invisible. The power supply is generally 9 volts, in some cases 3 volts. It is important to have the control of "Notch", to control the resonances on the stage. To request more information about our products or services write here .
